| What is Linux? There are literaly millions of web pages about Linux on the Internet (see links below), but basically Linux is a FREE operating system that comes with everything you are ever likely to need already on the CD. If you already have an Internet connection it can be downloaded for FREE. Everybody has heard of Microsoft, but very few people realise there is an alternative. After the latest spate of bugs, worms, viruses etc; wouldn't it be nice not to have to call a technician out every few weeks to de-bug your computer? Now you don't have to! (What is a virus?) To say Linux is completely impervious to attack would not be 100% true, but it is much more difficult for idiots to write bugs for it. To our knowledge none of the current viruses affect Linux (click for more). This page is not designed to be a definitive guide to Linux, but more of an eye opener to the fact that there is an alternative operating system out there and that we can offer this service on the Costa Blanca. How about: Having more than one language? You can install up to 60 different languages from the same disk. If you have German, Spanish and English speaking staff for example, they can have it in their own language for no extra cost and easily switch between them. How about: Having a complete office suite that you don't have to pay for and is compatible with Windows (ie: Word, Excel, Powerpoint etc:)? Compatability? See this article. How much does it cost? This will depend on your current system. We can either supply an extra 40/80 gigabyte hard-drive with Linux installed or (if your current disk is large enough) we can use your existing one. Either way you will have 2 operating systems. This allows you to still keep using your other system until you are used to Linux. We also spend time with you teaching you how to operate it. Normally you would not need more than a couple of hours to understand your new system. Yes there is a slight learning curve, but this is no more difficult than changing from Win98 to Win XP. It is mostly getting used to different file names for the applications. We can also keep your computer up to date with all the latest applications via remote control. See here |
